A redirect sends visitors from one URL on your site to another. Redirects are useful when you change the address of a page, remove an old page, or want to point visitors to a different page.
For example, if you used to have a page at /old-flooring-guide and you moved its content to /flooring-tips, you can add a redirect so anyone who visits the old URL is automatically taken to the new one.
What you can do here
From the SEO > Redirects page, you can:
- Add a new redirect.
- Edit an existing redirect.
- Delete redirects one at a time or in bulk.
- Duplicate an existing redirect to use as a starting point for a new one.
- Import a list of redirects from a CSV file.
- Export your current redirects to a CSV file.
About source and destination paths
Each redirect has two parts:
- Source. The path visitors are coming from. This is the old URL you want to redirect away from.
- Destination. The path visitors should be sent to instead. This is the new URL you want them to land on.
Both fields must:
- Start with a forward slash (/).
- Be 256 characters or less.
- Be different from each other (a redirect can't point to itself).
Add a new redirect
Step 1: Open the Redirects page
- From the left sidebar, click SEO.
- Click the Redirects tab.
Step 2: Start a new redirect
Click the Add Redirect button in the top right corner of the page.
A dialog opens with two fields.
Step 3: Fill in the details
- Source (required). The old path. For example, /old-flooring-guide.
- Destination (required). The new path. For example, /flooring-tips.
Step 4: Save
Click Save & Publish. The dialog closes and your redirect appears in the list.
Edit an existing redirect
You have two ways to edit a redirect.
Option 1: Edit the full redirect in a dialog
- Find the redirect you want to update in the list.
- Click the pencil (edit) icon next to it, or click the three-dot menu and choose Edit.
- Update the Source or Destination as needed.
- Click Save & Publish.
Option 2: Quick edit from the list
For small changes, you can edit the Source or Destination directly in the list:
- Double-click the Source or Destination cell you want to change.
- Type your update.
- Click outside the cell or press Enter to save.
Duplicate a redirect
If you want to create a new redirect that's similar to one you already have, you can duplicate it:
- Find the redirect you want to duplicate in the list.
- Click the three-dot menu and choose Duplicate.
- A copy is created. Edit the new copy to change the Source and Destination.
Delete a redirect
Delete one redirect
- Find the redirect you want to delete in the list.
- Click the three-dot menu and choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion in the prompt.
Note: Deleting redirects requires Admin access.
Delete multiple redirects at once
- Use the checkboxes on the left side of the list to select the redirects you want to delete. To select every redirect, use the checkbox in the header row, then click Select all to include redirects on other pages.
- Click the Delete button that appears at the top of the list.
- Confirm the deletion in the prompt.
Search and filter redirects
If you have a lot of redirects, you can narrow the list:
- Search. Use the search bar at the top of the list to find a redirect by source path, destination path, or other fields.
- Filter. Click the filter button to filter by date created, date updated, or who created the redirect.
- Sort. Click any column header to sort the list by that column. Click again to reverse the sort.
Import redirects from a CSV file
If you have a large number of redirects to add at once, you can import them from a CSV file.
Prepare your CSV file
Your file should be a standard CSV (comma-separated values) file. The easiest way to get the right format is to export your current redirects first (see below) and use that file as a template.
Import the file
- From the SEO > Redirects page, click the Import button (above the redirects list).
- Drag and drop your CSV file into the upload area, or click to browse and select the file.
- Click Save to import.
When the import finishes, your new redirects appear in the list.
Export redirects to a CSV file
You can download a CSV file of all your current redirects. This is useful for backups, for sharing with someone outside the CMS, or for using as a template when preparing a bulk import.
- From the SEO > Redirects page, click the Export button (above the redirects list).
- A CSV file downloads to your computer with a name like redirects-export-{your website ID}.csv.
What if I see an error?
- "Source is required" or "Destination is required." Both fields must be filled in before you can save.
- "Source must start with /" or "Destination must start with /." Add a forward slash at the beginning. For example, use /old-page instead of old-page.
- "Source and Destination cannot be the same." A redirect must point from one path to a different path. Update one of the fields so they don't match.
- "Source must be under 256 characters" or "Destination must be under 256 characters." Shorten the path. If you genuinely need a longer URL, you may need to restructure the page address itself.
